The island of Lefkada Greece is a magnificent holiday destination for those who want to spend their days lying in the sun, swimming in emerald waters, and participating in exciting water sports. Lefkada beaches rank among the best in the world, long and pristine, with invitingly clear waters. If you want to tour the island, there are many sites and attractions, including castles, churches, museums, and traditional villages. On this page, you are provided with a map of Lefkada Island, as well as travel information about beaches and sightseeing in Lefkas Greece.

Lefkada Beaches
The island of Lefkada is probably most famous for its stunning beaches, some of which are placed among the finest in the world. Lefkada beaches on the western coast of the island, such as Porto Katsiki, Eggremni, and Kathisma are exquisite, with turquoise waters that lap white sandy shores. Equally beautiful are the Lefkada beaches of Agios Nikitas, Megali Petra, and Pefkoulia.

The beach in Vassiliki, called Ponti Beach, on the southern side of Lefkada, is especially celebrated for its excellent windsurfing conditions, making it a popular place for avid windsurfers throughout the year. Agiofili Beach, located near Vassiliki, is another wonderful beach for swimming and sunbathing.

On the eastern coast you will come across the beaches of Lygia, Nikiana, Nydri, Vlychos, Mikros Gialos and Syvota, all of which are located in popular seaside resorts. On the northern coast, close to Lefkada Town, is the beach of Agios Ioannis, a favorite location for kite surfing.

Lefkada Sightseeing
When vacationing in Lefkada Greece, we recommend dedicating a day or two to visiting the sites. Before setting off on your tour, purchase a good map of Lefkada that includes the most important monuments on the island.

First, take a stroll along the harbor front in Vassiliki, and have a bite to eat or a cup of coffee at the quaint seaside tavernas and cafés. A visit to the Church of Agios Gerasimos, which is surrounded by plane trees, is a must. Nearby Syvota is also a very picturesque town, where the rich and famous dock their yachts.

In Lefkada Town, we recommend taking a walk in the narrow alleyways and along the port-front, and visiting the church of Panagia Odigitria, the Agia Mavra Castle and the Archaeological Museum.

Nydri is a popular resort on the eastern coast, where you can visit the remains of the prehistoric settlement, the lush mountain area of "Skaros", and the beautiful natural area with the waterfalls and the Dimosariou Gorge.

Other wonderful places for Lefkada sightseeing are the Folklore Museum in Karya and the remains of Ancient Agrepavli in Poros. We also suggest renting a boat to cruise around the small isles of Scorpios, Scorpidi, Meganissi, and Sparti, which are located close to Lefkada.
